A denture (also called as removable dental prosthesis) is a removable replacement for missing teeth. A complete denture for whole mouth replaces all natural and missing teeth in the mouth.
A complete denture does not have any natural teeth to hold it in mouth. Therefore, it should be placed on minimum 2 implants in each jaw. The implants hold the denture in its place in mouth so that the denture does not move. A complete denture without implants causes wounds and bruises in mouth while talking, eating and chewing because it does not stay in one position in mouth without the implants.
A complete denture placed on implants is also called as implant supported denture, overdenture, hybrid denture, click denture, click teeth and snap-on denture in location_country.

There are 2 types of complete denture for whole mouth:
In this, the denture has no support from any natural tooth or implant. Therefore, it causes wounds and bruises in mouth while talking, eating and chewing.
In this, implants are inserted in both jaws to hold the denture in its position in the mouth. Minimum 2 implants are required in each jaw to hold the denture.
A complete denture for whole mouth is placed on either 2 or 4 implants per jaw. So, the whole mouth will have a total of either 4 or 8 implants to firmly hold all 28 teeth of a complete denture in its position in the mouth.
A permanent dental bridge of fixed teeth can also be placed on implants instead of a denture. In this, the teeth are permanently fixed on implants.
Minimum 4 implants are required in each jaw (total 8 implants) to hold the fixed teeth on the implants.
There are 2 types material used to make dentures:
Acrylic denture are harder than flexible denture and stay more firm in the mouth. These are used in complete denture on implants.
A hard acrylic denture is used over implants because it stays firm in the mouth over implants. Flexible denture is not placed on implants because of its softness.
A flexible denture is made from soft plastic and bends more than a hard acrylic denture.
It is used only in partial denture and complete denture without implants.
A flexible denture can not be used in complete denture on implants because it can loose the hold of implants because of its softness.
Example, the cost calculation of a complete denture of 28 teeth with 2 implants in each jaw (total 4 implants) is:
Bone graft and sinus lift surgery is done on a part of the jaw that has less bone to hold the implant. It adds artificial bone in the part of the jaw that holds the implant.
