Dentures

Dentures are removable artificial teeth and gums created to replace lost or removed natural teeth. Denture are removable artificial teeth, unlike dental implant and bridge that are permanent. Dentures are worn daily and removed before sleep. Dentures are cleaned and kept in water when not worn.

Types of denture:

  • Removable Partial Denture
  • Complete / Full mouth denture

A removable partial denture is used when some tooth are remaining and some are missing. A complete / full mouth denture is used when all teeth are missing. Both type of dentures are removable and are not fixed and permanent like implant or bridge.

Denture is made of two types of material:

  • Acrylic (Hard)
  • Thermoplastic (Flexible)

The acrylic or hard denture is made of acrylic which is a hard material. It’s shape does not change. The flexible denture is made up of thermoplastic material which is a flexible material. The flexible denture can change shape to fit better in the mouth. Flexible denture is better than a hard acrylic denture but is more expensive. Patient need is more comfortable and need less time to adjust to it.

Implant Vs Denture

Denture and implant are two totally different ways to fill the gap left by missing teeth. An implant is the most natural way to replace a teeth. Denture is a low-cost alternative of missing teeth. Implant is a permanent tooth so it has much higher strength than the removable artificial teeth in denture. Implant is fixed in the bone. Denture is removable, so it needs a lot of maintenance and in very uncomfortable to wear. An Implant is always recommended over a denture or a bridge.
