Dental veneers and Lumineers (also known as dental laminates) are a thin teeth cover of tooth-colored material that covers the front teeth. These are used to fill teeth gap, for teeth whitening and to fix broken teeth. Veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth to correct their color, shape, size, or length. It is a type of thin tooth crown.

Veneers last for over 20 years and require very less trimming of the tooth. Lumineers do not require any trimming of the tooth. Veneers and Lumineers cost INR ₹ 7000 per tooth. These are permanently fixed to the teeth and can not be removed.

Types of Veneeers

Veneers are of three types:

These are strong and require no trimming of teeth.

These are the strongest type of veneers but require a little trimming of teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

  • Porcelain veneers are 0.5 mm in thickness
  • Porcelain veneers are placed after slight tooth reduction.
  • Porcelain veneers are the strongest tooth veneers and last for 10-20 years.
  • A small amount of tooth surface is removed to make space for porcelain veneers. Therefore, it allows a perfect fit without making teeth heavy.
  • They are expensive than a composite veneer, and slightly less expensive than lumineers.
  • They are very difficult to break or crack.

Composite Veneers

  • Composite veneers are made using composite dental cement. The cement is directly applied to the tooth surface.
  • Composite veneers generally require a single visit.
  • Composite veneers are comparatively cheaper than porcelain veneers.
  • They are aesthetically less appealing as compared to the porcelain veneers.
  • They tend to stain.
  • They chip or fracture much more easily than their porcelain counterparts.
  • They do not require trimming of teeth and are non-invasive.

Cost of Veneers and Lumineers

Procedure for Placing Veneers and Lumineers

Veneers and Lumineers are placed in 2 visits at a gap of 7 days.

First Visit: the doctor does a thorough checkup and makes impressions of mouth. In case of veneers impression is made after reducing the teeth, whereas for Lumineers, impressions are made without tooth reduction

Second Visit: It takes around 5-7 days for the lab to prepare the veneers. And they are glued to the teeth surface using very strong chemical.


After the alterations, the veneers are cleaned and bonded to the teeth using a special cement which solidifies with blue light

Precautions after Treatment

  • Veneers can chip or break under pressure – Avoid biting your fingernails and chewing on hard objects, such as pencils or ice.
  • It may take you a few days to get used to the feel of your veneers. But if your bite does not feel right after the veneer has been placed, get it corrected by the dentist.
  • Keep your teeth and gums clean by brushing and flossing each day. You can still get cavities under or around veneers.
