A tooth crown is a cover on a tooth. It is placed on a tooth after a surgery. The purpose of a crown is to make a tooth stronger after a surgery. It preserves the shape, size, and strength of the tooth. The tooth also looks better after placing a tooth crown over it.
A tooth crown is placed on the tooth after many dental procedures like root canal treatment, dental implant etc.
Tooth crowns are made using four types of material: Zirconia, Porcelain, Metal, and Acrylic.
Zirconia tooth crown is the strongest and best tooth crown. It has no metal in it and therefore looks like a natural
tooth. It is more expensive than porcelain dental bridge. We use zirconia tooth dental bridge in all treatments.
A porcelain dental bridge is made by putting a layer of porcelain (ceramic) over a metal crown. It is
cheaper than zirconia dental bridge and has high strength. However, it is not as strong as zirconia dental bridge.
Metal crown is made completely from metal. It is not recommended because it is black in color and looks bad. Metal
crown is very cheap in cost and has a long life.
Acrylic crown is very weak. It is used as a temporary tooth after an implant surgery. Its life is 6 months. It is replaced
with a zirconia or porcelain tooth crown later on.
A tooth crown is placed in 2 days in two parts.
First Visit: After a surgery on the tooth like implant or root canal treatment, the dentist takes an impression of the mouth. It takes 10-15 minutes. Tooth crown is made in 1-2 days.
Second Visit: After a gap of 2 days, in the second visit, the tooth crown is permanently glued to the surface of the tooth using a very strong chemical. It takes 20-30 minutes to apply a tooth crown on one tooth.
A CAD / CAM (Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing) machine is used to manufacture tooth crown, dental veneers, Lumineers, and dental bridge from zirconia (ceramic) material. This machine has high accuracy and is completely automatic.
An intra-oral scanner takes a 3D image of the mouth. This 3D image is directly sent to the CAD / CAM machine that makes tooth crown, dental veneers, Lumineers, and dental bridge from zirconia (ceramic) material, that fits perfectly on the tooth.
All dental procedures usually use only zirconia and porcelain dental crowns , so we have listed the cost of zirconia and porcelain dental crowns in USA and outside USA.
